The new accident rules in Panama went into effect yesterday (March 3, 2011), with the biggest rule involving motor accidents with no injuries. They now must move their vehicles to the side of the road after the accident occurs. The old rule was to stay in the same spot that the accident happened until the Police came to document the scene.
The drivers must now obtain in their vehicles an accident form at all times and move to the side of the road so traffic can pass.
These changes are to prevent minor accidents from blocking traffic for long periods of time. Problems with the minor accidents are that they have been happening more often with the amount of new construction and road patterns taking place in Panama City.
The rule is enforced now but you will not be fined until June for not carrying one of these forms in your car.
