For those who enjoy spa treatments but can’t afford the astronomical price to do so, Panama is a great place for you! Whether you enjoy massages, manicure/pedicures, haircuts, yoga, organic cuisine, etc., you will be taken care of in Panama for a fraction of the cost than what you are used to paying.
Let’s start with full body massages:
When you come to Panama, you’ll notice that there are a large amount of Spas located in Panama City. The hotel spas in Panama City will generally charge you the same prices that you’ll find in North America, but the smaller spas in and around Obarrio, Bella Vista, San Francisco, and Marbella offer 1 hour full body relaxing massages for only around $40. The spas are very nice, play relaxing music, are clean, and have good service.
The second option is to have a masseuse come to your home or apartment for a full body massage costing only $25 an hour. This massage is usually done by a professional that works at one of the hotel spas and comes over after work to earn some extra cash. If you are interested, please e-mail us for some excellent recommendations.
Our top recommendation in Panama City for mani/pedi’s is at Star Nails in Paitilla. Here you can receive a really nice manicure for only $5 and pedicure for $11. This place is always full of women so we advise you to make an appointment. (2639542)
Ask any resident in Panama City where to get a haircut and they probably have a great place for you to go because there are so many salons. But, one stylist that charges only $8 for a fabulous cut is in Paitilla, in the Paitilla Mall shopping center just two doors down from Farmacia El Javillo. Abdiel is an incredible stylist who really pays attention to detail and is a pleasure to visit with his soft spoken voice and positive attitude. Please e-mail us if you are interested in making an appointment with Abdiel.
One thing that isn’t usually cheap in Panama City is yoga and pilates classes. But, at the Akila yoga studio (in Paitilla in the same shopping center as Farmacia El Javillo), on Sunday mornings at 10:30AM there is a free yoga class that supports a Spay the Animals Charity through optional donations. This class is taught by trained yoga teachers and with a $5 donation you can enjoy an hour and a half long Yoga session.
In Bocas Del Toro exists one of best yoga studios we’ve ever experienced called, “Bocas Yoga.” The owner and Yoga Master, Laura Kay has a huge passion for yoga and a tranquil vibe that you will keep coming back. Classes are just $5 a session! www.bocasyoga.com
Organic Markets/Healthy Food:
A popular Organic food chain in Panama is called “Organica.” This store has it all from Vitamins, fresh fruits and veggies, a smoothie bar, snacks, and more. Though you’ll pay a premium for goods in here, you know that the products are coming from a good place.
The Fruit/Veggie Market on the road to Albrook Mall is a fabulous place to find local produce for very cheap! Tomatoes cost 70 Cents a pound, you can buy 5 pineapples for $1, 100 limes for a $1, and much more!
Lastly, for the seafood lovers, the Mercado Del Mariscos, at the entrance of Casco Viejo has fresh caught healthy seafood for sale at just $1.50-$4.00 per pound.
