Organic Fertilizer Growth in Panama

The use of organic fertilizers made out of waste from coffee and rice harvests, as well as manure and ashes in Panama is increasing.

This product is 100% environmentally friendly and allows farmers to control pests and fungi without using chemically damaging pesticides or insecticies.

The company Aboquete, from Boquete, Panama has an agreement to collect waste products from other farms in the region to collect waste for the production of organic fertilizer.

Unlike other organic products where prices are usually higher than chemically made products, the organic fertilizer is much less expensive than the chemical treatments, selling at less than a third of the cost.

The company, Aboquete wants to expand into producing fertilizer for mushroom production. They will invest $350,000 in the project, part of which will come from a grant from the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The growth in Organic fertilizers in the industry of Agriculture in Panama provides a step up in cleaning Panama’s environment.
